Another strong high pressure from China has moved over upper Laos and Vietnam and its effects will be felt in the upper Northeast today (December 2) with cool to cold weather in the North and the Northeast, the Thailand Meteorological Department announced this morning.
Temperatures are likely to fall further tomorrow (December 3) to December 7, with temperatures ranging from 12-19 degrees Celsius. It will be very cold on the mountaintops, with daytime highs of 10 degrees C with frost in some areas. The Central region including Bangkok will also enjoy cooler weather with temperatures falling by 4 – 6 degrees Celsius to 16 - 21 degrees Celsius.
The northeast monsoon across the Gulf of Thailand will strengthen, with strong winds whipping up the waves in the lower Gulf (from Chumphon south) up to 2-4 metres and higher in storms. Residents along the Gulf’s shore should watch for storm surges. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats in the Gulf should stay ashore.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:
Northern region: Cool with mist in the morning and light rain in parts, temperature lows of 15-24 degrees and highs of 29-34 degrees Celsius. Temperature likely to drop to 4-10 degrees on hilltops.
Northeastern region: Cool to cold weather with strong wind, temperatures lows 15-21 degrees and highs of 31-33 degrees Celsius. Temperature likely to drop to 8-11 degrees on hilltops.
Central region: Cool weather and strong wind; temperature lows of 22-23 degrees, highs 33-35 degrees Celsius.
Eastern region: Partly cloudy and strong wind; lows 23-25 degrees, highs 33-35 degree Celsius; wave height 1-2 metres.
Southern region (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thunder showers in 60 per cent of the area and partly heavy rains; lows of 23-25 degrees, high 29-33 degrees Celsius; wave height 1-2 metres, increasing to 2 metres during storms.
Southern region (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thunder showers in 30 per cent of the area and partly heavy rains; lows 23-25 degrees, highs 31-33 degree Celsius; wave height 1-2 metres, increasing to 2 metres during storms.
Bangkok and surrounding area: Partly cloudy and strong wind; lows of 23-24 degrees, highs 33-35 degrees Celsius.
